On October 14th, a vibrant crowd of Queers gathered in Los Angeles for a historic night of live music, comedy, and performance — all organized by the ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives Foundation. Entertainment for the night included music by Kelela, San Cha, Bae Bae, and more.
The event honored Jewel Thais-Williams, founder of CATCH ONE, with the History Maker Award. Catch One was known as the unofficial Studio 54 of the West Coast for over forty years, creating space for black, queer people, performers and socialites in Los Angeles.
Jewel’s Catch One was one of the very first black discos in the United States, featuring such legendary acts as Chaka Khan, Sylvester, Donna Summer, Madonna, and more.
